Scope
The principal process to be used within the new programme, will be peer review and development, which will enable providers to work together in peer groups to benchmark practice, validate self assessment judgements, share practice and carry out collaborative work to support improvement
Building on its work in leading the national peer referencing pilots (Click here for Evaluation of the National Peer Referencing Pilots), new peer review and development groups will be established across a range of specialist support programmes, including Train to Gain and Skills for Life. Within the Support for Excellence programme the focus of review activity will be on the performance of the whole organisation, with review topics being negotiated according to need.
There will be 125 peer review and development groups established of around five organisations per group with a geographical and sectoral spread which reflects the structure of the further education system, including offender learning and DWP peer groups. Providers will be expected to carry out reviews of provision in partner organisations, provide feedback on performance and support their partners in carrying out improvement activity. They will also be expected to host review activities, sharing self assessment reports and related documentation with their partner organisations for this purpose.
